Essential reading for a first year! November 20, 2009 Karen Barlow (North Wales, UK) As a first year Social Work Student, this was on our reading list and we were strongly advised to purchase a copy. It covers all the major topics within ADP and has been a massive help so far in just getting my head around some topics.
SOCIAL WORK TEXT BOOK October 11, 2009 Mrs. Kerry C. Cannon (england) THIS BOOK IS A MUST HAVE FOR ALL SOCIAL WORK STUDENTS. CAN BE USED THROUGH OUT THE 3 YEAR COURSE
An essential book for positive practice! July 5, 2001 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Neil Thompson has undoubtedly produced a book that forms the foundation of good practice for any social worker or student social worker. It is easy to read, comprehensive and will continue to be useful as a reader or referrence in current practice realtiing to anti-discrimination. His approach to the various forms of discrimination is informative and promotes understanding. Both new practioners as well as established ones will be able to grasp the complexities of discrimination to enable them to use the book as a tool to promote practice to counter it.

If you are a social worker you should read this book! December 6, 2000 annalennon@aol.com (Dundee, Scotland) 5 out of 9 found this review helpful
Neil Thompson has written a book about social work practice which should be obligatory reading. Every "-ism" to watch out for has been highlighted here, and even "double and triple jeopardy" is explored - What?! Can't be racist, sexist and ageist at the same time? Oh yes, you can! - Unlike some publications which emphasise political correctness for its own sake, this book should become the practice guide for anyone working with people, full stop.
