5 out of 5 stars Excellent   July 8, 2009

An excellent, informative and easy-to-read guide to what lesbians and gay men can expect when going through the adoption process in the UK. The adoption laws and attitudes towards LGB adopters have changed dramatically in the past five years or so, and this book comes at just the right time. As a prospective adopter myself, I enjoyed reading the case studies of those who are further along in the process than my partner and I are, and it gives a good idea of what is to come. A great little guide for any LGB people wondering if adoption is right for them. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars It can be done!   June 10, 2009

This book dispels many of the myths around gay and lesbian parenting and shows how gay and lesbian prospective adopters can turn their hopes and dreams of becoming parents into reality. The individual case studies resonate with the reader as real people in real situations sharing their experience, including highs and lows. Overall, a positive and helpful book.

I've found this book really interesting, especially the case studies. I like reading about other gay people's experiences of adoption - they are very inspiring and encouraging. The book also gives you all the information you need to get started on the adoption process.

5 out of 5 stars A much needed guide   June 9, 2009

This book is a must for any lesbians or gay men who are thinking of forming a family by adoption. It is the first book on the subject aimed at adopters in 10 years, and the whole landscape of adoption has changed a great deal in that time. The first section covers all of the legal changes, research, policy and technical ins and outs of the adoption process. There is also a step by step guide, with lists of questions for prospective adopters to ask themselves. The second part of the book contains interviews with adopters, which gives an engaging, personal account of the realities of adoption, and the greatly varying experiences of people going through the process.

This was a great book its first half is written by the British Adoption Board from their expectations and what the journey is like , the second half is all real life stories that hold no punches and say it like it was for same sex adopters who are now parents. it was a good balanced read , i also know one of the couples that are in the book they are a lesbian couple and now are panel members si I CAN GUARANTEE you all that its REAL stories with names changed.
